It should be made clear that I am addicted to Game of Thrones. If you did not know, now you know. Don't judge me.
We are talking about Jon Snow in this post! Sometimes I like to write a bunch of posts in one day, sometimes not, but what you should keep in mind is I have a vast spread of theories in my head. Yay. Time to go:
SPOILERS!
1. Marriage
Who will Jon Snow marry? Not saying he has to marry anyone, but he definitely could take a wife. Jon has three options, as of now, for potential wives: Sansa Stark, Daenerys Targaryen or Lyanna Mormont.
We know Jon has a thing for red heads (RIP Ygritte). With Jon now being Sansa's cousin rather than her half-brother, Jon could easily marry her and they could rule Winterfell together. Jon tells Samwell Tarly in Season 5 that it was always his dream to become Lord of Winterfell.
Personally, this is not my favorite theory, but Jon could marry Daenerys Targaryen. Aunt Daenerys is open to marriage as well, but then there is the question of who would rule Winterfell and who would be the true King/Queen of the Iron Throne.
And let's not forget Lyanna Mormont. She's ten-years-old in Season 6 when she stands up for Jon as the King in the North, but he could wait andmarry her. I think this is highly unlikely, but it might happen.
2. Beyond the Wall
Jon knows the real danger is beyond the North and beyond the Wall. Jon must team up with other Great Houses to help fight the true enemy. Jon is also one of the few that knows that only Dragonglass or Valyrian stell will defeat a true White Walker. He has the potential to lead the armies of the Seven Kingdoms into a war against the true North. Will the Wildlings follow him? They have so far.
3. Jon's Lineage
Jon's lineage is finally revealed in Season 6 during Bran's vision at the Tower of Joy. Finally confirmed, R+L=J. It is proven that Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen are, in fact, Jon's real parents.
Now knowing this, we have to take into account that Jon is one of the three true heirs to the throne, the others being Daenerys Targaryen and Gendry Waters. Following the Targaryen lineage, Jon is first in line before Daenerys to the throne because of some law that decrees that men come before women (BOO).
Another thing to keep in mind, there are only two people (presumably) alive that know Jon's true lineage: Bran Stark and Howland Reed. Don't remember who Howland Reed is? No worries. Howland Reed was with Ned Stark at the Tower of Joy rescuing Lyanna Stark during Robert's Rebellion. Howland Reed stabbed Ser Arthur Dayne in the back before he could kill Ned Stark. Howland Reed was last seen in the Riverlands and his daughter, Meera Reed, is with Bran Stark beyond the Wall. There's a chance that either one of these people could be the answer to Jon's questions.
Another thing about Jon is his name. Lyanna Stark told Ned what Jon's true name was, but Ned changed it to Jon, after his good friend Jon Arryn. Ned presumably changed Jon's name because Lyanna had given him a true Targaryen name and it would've been too easy to figure out who Jon really was. In the Season 6 finale, Jon's true name is muted out from the audience. Clearly his name is very important and it is currently unclear if Bran heard teh true name in his vision or not.
2. The Prince Who Was Promised
Because of Jon's lineage, it may explain why Melisandre (Red Woman) thinks Jon is The Prince Who Was Promised. Originally believing it was Stannis Baratheon, Melisandre changed her opinion when Jon was brought back from the dead by the faith of R'hllor. Azor Ahai (the person Melisandre thinks Jon Snow is) is a legendary hero in the faith of R'hllor who lived thousands of years before the War of the Five Kings. Think of him like Westeros' version of King Arthur. Why does this matter? Well, it's just a theory, but here's some more on it:
3. Azor Ahai
Azor Ahai wielded a weapon, a sword called Lightbringer, and is said to be reborn when darkness descends upon the world to save humanity from the Others.
Melisandre says, "That sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him."
Jon Snow was brought back by the Lord of Light through Melisandre. Now Lightbringer, in the orginal story, was forged by Azor Ahai plunging it into his wife's heart to infuse it with her soul. It is said we will know it is Azor Ahai reborn because he will weild Lightbringer, and his flaming sword. However, his "flaming sword" could be a metaphor rather than a literal weapon. It could even be a person (which would be funny considering why Jon likes gingers).
In some legends, the Prince That Was Promised and Azor Ahai reborn are the same. But in others, he is an entirely different hero and there's no mention of a legendary sword. His presence will be announced by a bleeding star. He's also a descendent of House Targaryen. Rhaegar Targaryen initially thought he was the fated Prince at one point. But George R.R. Martin clearly states in the DVD extras of Game of Thrones that Azor Ahai and the Prince That Was Promised are one and the same. But since the show is making its own canon, it's entirely possible they will disregard that.
4. Lightbringer
Still going here on Azor Ahai (potentially Jon Snow), then we can assume his "weapon". If Lightbringer is a person, then it could be Ser Davos Seaworth. His presence in "Home" (Season 6 episode 2) shows him as the last human to leave Jon's side before he takes his first breath reborn.
Following this theory, even Ghost could be considered as Lightbringer as Ghost never left Jon's side when he died.
Another theory is that Lightbringer could be the "ice dragon beneath Winterfell" in the crypts. If you believe in the Winterfell dragon theory, then you might believe this one. Trust me, I'll do a theory post on the dragon. Anyways, the theory around the dragon is that Jon must discover the dragon, if it exists, especially with the knowledge we have of his fear of the Winterfell crypts and his mysterious dreams (from the books). This dragon could be Lightbringer.
5. Ice Dragon
This is still connected to Jon, believe it or not. But speaking of this dragon under Winterfell. Fans and theorists have mentioned an "ice dragon" under Winterfell. But even the ice dragon could be a metaphor for Jon meaning he IS the ice dragon. He is a Stark (Ice) and a Targaryen (Dragon). It can't be a coincidence that the family greatsword of the Stark's was a Valyrian steel sword called Ice. Either way:
"He dreamt he was back in Winterfell, limping past the stone kings on their thrones. Their grey granite eyes turned to follow him as he passed, and their grey granite fingers tightened on the hilts of their rusted swords upon their laps. You are no Stark, he could hear them mutter, in heavy granite voices. There is no place for you here. Go away. He walked deeper in the darkness. "Father?" he called. "Bran? Rickon?" No one answered. A chill wind was blowing on his neck. "Uncle?" he called. "Uncle Benjen? Father? Please, Father, help me." Up above he heard drums. They were feasting in the Great Hall, but I am not welcome there. I am no Stark, and this is not my place. His crutch slipped and he fell to his knees. The Crypts were growing darker. A light has gone out somewhere. "Ygritte?" he whispered. "Forgive me. Please?" But it was only a direwolf, grey and ghastly, spotted with blood, his golden eyes shining sadly through the dark..." The dreams Jon Snow has about the crypts of Winterfell.
6. Jon's Grave
Speaking of the crypts of Winterfell, let's talk about graves. In Winterfell, graves are made for those born within the walls the time of their birth. Example, Ned Stark's grave was already made for him when he died and Catelyn took his bones/ashes back to Winterfell to be buried. Therefore, Jon's grave may already have been made, however, is it down with all the other family members or is it hidden away somewhere with his true name? We saw Lyanna Stark's grave in Season 1 when Robert Baratheon made Ned take him down to see her. Is there a possibility that Jon could discover his own grave with his real name on it?
7. Dragon Rider
Jon could be one of the legendary dragon riders. Out of Daenerys' three dragons, Jon could be one of riders. Especially since he's actually a Targaryen. Personally, I don't think he will choose to ride a dragon, just because he has massive experience leading armies from the ground with Ghost. Examples: The Battle at Hardhome, The Battle at Castle Black, The Battle of the Bastards, The Battle at Craster's Keep.
We are back from those massive theories. I doubt I'm even done with Jon, but for now, we'll stop.
Hope this post wasn't too long for you, nerds! But I love ya, and come back for more geeking out!
